In all my years of training thousands of people, I am yet to meet someone who isn't naturally intuitive. Even a small dose of intuition can be harnessed and sharpened into a valuable life tool.

INSIGHT #1: You are Already Intuitive - Let's get started developing intuition

Intuition is already a part of your life, you are already intuitive. Nobody had to teach you to see, hear, feel, smell or taste. In the same way nobody has to teach you to be able to intuit, you already have the equipment.

However, if you want to become a better cook you have to get better at tasting. If you want to become a better musician you have to become better at listener. If you aspire to become a better artist or photographer you have to practice seeing in new ways.

It is no different with developing intuition.

The learning process is a slow and gradual process. When we were children we learned first to distinguish basic shapes and colors and over time we learned to make subtler distinctions.

Training your intuition is a very similar process.

First you learn to LABEL the basic intuitive impressions (sticking to the broad strokes) and then COMPARING them until your INTUITIVE LITERACY is improved.

Understand that Intuition is not a spectacle. Most people think of intuition as a grand spectacle kind of experience. Here is a rule to live by when working with your intuition, don’t forget it, it’s really important.

Intuition is not fireworks, it is very subtle work.

How to set the stage for receiving an intuitive thought

  1. Relax you mind and body – release tension through you outbreath
  2.  Cut the identification with beliefs – you are not your thoughts

A relaxed state of body and mind is the ideal platform for intuitive information to flow through you. So practice getting your body into a peaceful, relaxed state to OPEN to intuition.

Exercise 1: Find Your Past Intuitive Moments

Think back now and answer these questions to find your past intuitive moments… Spend a few moments and provide examples of each. Focus on the small and the big experiences that you have had – everything from feelings and "knowings" to more dramatic events.

  • How many times has your phone rang and you’ve just known who it was?
  • How many times have you had an inner prompting about whether to trust someone or not?
  • How many times have you felt very connected to a another human being, so connected in fact that you could anticipate their thoughts and even their words?
  • How many times have you had an inner prompting to help you steer away from danger or avoid a problem?
  • How many times have you said “I wish I listened to my inner voice”?
  • How many times have you said “Aaha, thank goodness I listened to my little voice”?

Exercise 2: Your Past Intuitive Moments And Their Common Denominator

What are the common denominators between each of the above experiences?

  • How did that information come to you?
  • In what form did the information come to you?
  • How did you receive those intuitive ideas or impressions?

Exercise 3: How do Intuitive Moments Differ From Normal Day to Day Thinking?

Now think about what the difference is between these intuitive moments and experiences from your normal day to day thinking and thoughts.

  • What do your normal day to day thinking and thoughts feel like?
  • How do normal thoughts arrive compared to intuitive thoughts?

Exercise 4: Tips and Exercises for Getting Into a Relaxed State Of Mind

  • Practice deep conscious breathing
  • Focusing on your body and feeling or sensing the earth Underneath you
  • Breathing in peace 

Exercise 5: Recognizing Stress and Fear

Peace is not the absence of fear. But fear is the absence of peace. Stress and fear literally get in the way of your intuition working well for you – it inter-fears. Just learning to BE aware of your fear levels is a valuable exercise in itself. To spot fear in your body by paying attention to the following sensations:

  • Tightness in the abdomen
  • Fluttering and energy movement in the abdomen
  • Tightness or a closed feeling in the chest
  • Tightness in the throat
  • Heart beat increasing
  • General feeling of heaviness or closed
  • Irritability
  • Shallow breathing

When you feel fear, STOP, and take a few deep breaths. Use your outbreath as a relaxation technique, and help your body to settle.

INSIGHT #2: Your Mind is like a radio tuner - with a developing intuition you can tune into any frequency.

Your mind has the capacity to “tune in.” Your mind is like the tuning dial on a transistor radio - it has the capacity to “tune-in”. Your mind is not capable of intuiting and directly knowing. But, through sensations and feeling, your body can.

There is nothing you can’t set your intention to tune into. You can change what you are tuned into, too. What are you tuned into? Become conscious of what you are tuning into.

Relaxing your body is how you get rid of the static inter-FEARance so that your intuitive signal is clear for your mental receiver.

Another key lesson here is to learn to pay attention to what's happening below your shoulders. Music doesn’t happen above your shoulders it happens IN YOUR BODY! Intuition doesn’t happen in your head or outside of you; it happens IN YOUR BODY and below the shoulders – especially in the gut and chest area!

Not all the feelings you feel in your body belong to you. How much of what you feel is not you burden to carry?

Which mistakes are you making?

  1. Visualizing

  6. Letting dogmatic beliefs and judgments color your impressions

True intuitive insights don't sound weird, feel radical or seem very noticeably different in any way. Remember it's not fireworks! There are no bells and whistles, no neon lights. You don’t hear booming voices in the sky or see lights. That might be what the mind does when it tries to take credit for the insight… But that stuff is not the language of the intuitive body.

It all happens inside YOU.

Your body FEELS the raw data and then your mind is the one interpreting the RAW intuitive data, TRANSLATING it into words and pictures and concepts. Although the physical sensations you experience are completely objective,  from the minds point of view it is ALL subjective!!!

Why?! Because the meaning your mind gives the experience is only an interpretation.

Words, along with other languages of the intellect, can only describe and point to a truth. There can be no Truth in language, no Truth in words. Words are modeling tools and can only create models of thought.

Let me put that another way… Feeling the raw sensations is a very objective experience. The interpretation of those sensations, energies and impressions by the mind is very subjective, and we have a choice what to buy into.

Whatever you choose to focus on will be experienced in your reality.

So, in a sense it IS YOU making it up. Your mind is translating the information into WORDS and PICTURES. So accept that you ARE making it up – it’s just a case of how much value you get from the translation and how accurately you are able to interpret the raw data that your body has access to.

Intuition is deep thoughts and intuitive feelings that flow to your body and then are interpreted by your mind. They may sound just like your own thoughts, but they offer:

  • New perspectives
  • Ideas that make sense
  • Insights that feel right
  • Ways to open the doors in your life

Focus on sensations and vibrations in your body and then move your focus and attention to whatever you want to tune into:

  • Anything that you would like to connect to intuitively.

Exercise 7: Tuning Into Music
Music, like intuitive impressions, has the ability to stir your emotions and to change the sensations and the feelings within your body. Choose different types of music including rock, classical, pop, and meditative; listen to the pieces you have chosen.

In a journal write how each piece made you feel. Notice the following feelings in your body, as a range of sensations:

Expansion <> Contraction
Light <> Heavy
Open <> Closed
Peace <> Fear
Centered <> Tension

Example:Here is an example of how to first get a basic body feeling and then push for more words to further clarify the intuitive feeling.

Example 1:

  • “I feel PEACFUL... HAPPY... OPEN ...” (push for more words)
  • “I feel like I can do anything” ...” (pushing for more words)
  • “It’s a feeling of confidence and energy, an up feeling.”

Example 2:

  • “I feel HEAVY... CLOSED...” (push for more words)
  • “I feel burdened ...“ (pushing for more words)
  • “It’s like a trapped feeling, with a little sadness and maybe some anger underneath, like giving up.”

After doing these exercises you should have a better understanding of the following:

    • Feelingfocusing on your body
    • Changes of feeling in your body
    • Translating feelings into words and
    • Pushing for more words to describe a feeling or body sensation

INSIGHT #3: Your body is the receiver of information

When you start getting results from developing intuition you will experience that around you is a sea of information and your body is the receiver of that information. It’s through your body that you receive impressions from the matrix of energy around you and do your best to interpret it into insights. Energy = Information

It is this sea of information that binds and connects us all. Learning to use your intuition is learning to OPEN TO and TUNE IN to that sea of information.

Is the human body capable of this level of sophisticated “reading” of information? Let me ask you this; is a cell phone more sophisticated than a human body?

Acknowledge that pure thought is something you can feel, or sense, or know more accurately than seeing as pictures or hearing of words.

The best way to draw from this river of information is to first go to the river’s edge and then immersing yourself in it. You do this by going to the center of yourself.

By journeying to your center you create the best state of being to be in to open to the sea of information around you, and be well on your way to developing intuition.

Going to the Centre = Being Intuitive

In the image above the surface of the sphere represents your conscious mind. Now imagine being at the center of the sphere. If that sphere represents all that you can see and know, how does it feel to be at the center?

List as many practical ideas as possible…

TIP: Use habit forming cues to remind yourself... For example:

Every time you listen to someone or speak to someone - for a few days, place your hand gently on your belly and consciously remind yourself to go there, to Center”.

Do this until it is a habit and you don’t need to put your hand on your belly to remind yourself.

INSIGHT #4: Wherever your awareness is focused is also where you are tuned into intuitively

A key insight in developing your intuition is: Whatever you've focused your awareness on, your body will have already begun an intuitive dialogue around it. It’s up to you to decide to be consciously present to the conversation, or not!

The focal awareness point (FAP)
You can place your awareness on a small area or a large area, on something within you or something outside of yourself. Your focal awareness point is not fixed.

You can place your awareness on:

  • Any person, anywhere regardless of distance
  • On any point in time
  • On any MENTAL CONSTRUCT – question, concept, problem or issue
  • On any relationship dynamic
  • On any potential solution
  • On any place or space.

There are no space/time rules around your focal awareness point. Wherever you place that focal awareness point with ATTENTION and INTENTION you will tune into. From that point of awareness you can feel for, and intuit, information.


Neutral Canvas

When developing intuition realize this: Your body is like a canvas and it is important for you to begin your tune-in's and connections from a neutral place . If you can’t get neutral – simply notice what is in your body. Describe the feeling or emotion and claim it as your own.

Then as and when things change after your tune in, you can remember that the backdrop of your own feelings may be there for a while. Usually when you get into the tune-in more deeply, the tune-in dominates and your body’s own feelings go to the background and don’t influence.

The 4 Levels of Awareness

There are four levels of awareness to start experimenting with and training your body to sense through your Focal Awareness.

There are many ways to developing intuition, but one of the most effective I have found through the years of working actively with intuitive development, is to assist people to expand their focal awareness on four levels, namely:

1st. Physical (body) Level
2nd. Emotional Level
3rd. Mental Level
4th. Spiritual Level

The mental level is where you ask questions and allow intuitive insights to flow to you. It is best to only fully engage the mind and mental levels once a physical and emotional awareness is established.

Developing  intuition is:

  • Learning to expand your awareness on all four levels
  • learning to consciously direct it to where you want information, to gain deeper insights from all four levels
  • Applying this directed awareness to tune-in to YOUR OWN and other people's physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels

Developing Intuition by Building the Four Levels of Awareness

Level 1 - Expand your PHYSICAL AWARENESS
To expand your physical awareness place all your attention in your body. By living below the shoulders and monitoring for subtle or strong sensations and feelings you will expand this level easily.Go to Practice 9 for the rest of the exercise…

Level 2 - Expand your EMOTIONAL AWARENESS
Keep practicing body FAP and awareness techniques as outlined in the prior lessons but add depth and attention to any EMOTIONS (no matter how subtle) that you pick up on.Practice pushing yourself for words to describe your feelings as acutely as possible. Push for more and more words, even if it feels like the words won't come, push yourself and refine your emotional literacy. Also be aware of which part of your body each emotion seems to dominate.Go to Practice 10 for the rest of the exercise.

Level 3 - Exploration of concepts
This exercise may take a fair amount of time and probably requires your solitude. Notice how different thoughts elicit different feelings in your body, as you feel the feeling HOLD it and go deeper for EMOTION and more descriptive words

The desired outcome for this exercise is to just notice how different thoughts elicit different feeling/sensations in your body. Pay special attention to the type of overall sensation.

This exercise may take a fair amount of time and probably requires your solitude. Notice how different thoughts elicit different feelings in your body, as you feel the feeling HOLD it and go deeper for EMOTION and more descriptive words.

THEN ASK QUESTIONS and DIALOGUE and EXPLORE seeking TRUTH and DEEPER WISDOM or INSIGHT about WHY your body feels the way it does for each concept.

Close your eyes and monitor your body’s physical feelings and sensations with their emotional connections, then explore inner answers that pop into your mind when you wonder WHY I feel that way.

Pay special attention to the following type of overall sensations and then hold each, and FEEL for the FEELING that is there. Then ask questions about those feelings with the intention of getting DEEPER TRUTH and INSIGHT about your BODY‟s feelings:


Record keywords for the physical sensations, emotional response and deeper mental (thinking and inner dialogue exploration to each of the following.) Questions to help yourself push for words on the mental level include:

• “Why am I feeling that feeling?”
• “What is the deeper reason for that feeling?”
• “What do I believe about this that no longer serves me?”
• “Is what I believe really, REALLY true?”
• “What would I feel if I changed my thinking or mind about this?”
• “What thought would bring me peace about this?”

Go inside, relax and focus your awareness, then let descriptions of your physical AND THEN emotional awareness AND THEN MENTAL AWARENESS flow, push yourself for words and understandings and write them down.

HUNT PEACE – in other words have healing and peace and deeper truth as your goal!!! Dig for DEEPER TRUTH – not for truth from your fear or ego, but for the kind of insight that opens your heart and brings peace.

INSIGHT #5: Intuition is not fallible but you are

Your intuitive instrument is a quantum mechanical marvel.

There is no scientific instrument that has ever, or will, ever be invented by man that is more sensitive. But here is the challenge… To make decisions on what to act on we must filter all that information through mental filters. Our mental software can be a weak link in the system, it is full of corrupted ideas (viruses) or outdated software.

For this reason our intuition is fallible. Because intuitive information can be miss interpreted developing your discernment is if the utmost importance.

Here are the rules:

1. Intuitive information can be misinterpreted don't try to convince yourself that yours or anyone's intuitive insights are always accurate and infallible. Because you are filtering your feelings through your intellect, Intuition is subjective, it is not objective.

All intuitive insights must pass through your own internal filters of ego, fear, beliefs, moods and past conditioning. They are translated by your own mind and therefore can be mistranslated.

2. Remain discerning at all timeseIf you just accept that intuition is very valuable but it also is fallible... you will stay balanced.

3. You don't have to trust every thought impression you have, trust 'yourself' to discern. To discern you must learn to be honest with yourself, learn to recognize how you lie to yourself.

4. Fear literally inter-fears with your intuition, F.E.A.R = False Evidence Appearing Real

5. What blocks or interferes with clear intuitive work?

• Ego
• Subjective influences of rigid beliefs & belief systems
• Attitudes
• Values
• Identifications
• Fear
• Trying too hard

6. Stay flexible, don’t lock yourself in with absolute predictions. Also, become conscious of your expectations in every emotional situations.

7. Use your intuition to empower not disempowerUse your intuition to build awareness of choice, to create more choice and to take responsibility (increase your ability to respond in a given situation).

INSIGHT #6: Start with the general and let it carry you to the more specific

1. The Awareness Triangle

It is so important for you in your intuitive tune-in’s, and in your intuitive exploratory work, to not aim directly for specific detail and information. Rather start with the broad strokes and general feelings and impressions and let those general impressions take you to the detail.

As you will notice the diagram below represents general impressions at the top of the upside down triangle and more specific detailed impressions at the bottom of the triangle. Allow yourself to trust that if specific detail does not arise that there is some kind of wisdom at play.

2. Pure intuitive thought flows from the general to the specific.

3. Step by step process to turn pure general thought into specific words.

4. Examples of GENERAL intuitive impressions (From the top of the Awareness Triangle) Here are examples of GENERAL feelings and impressions from the top of the upside down triangle:

PHYSICAL AWARENESS - General Feelings and sensations:

• open/closed
• contracted/expanded
• heavy/light
• high energy/medium energy/low energy
• fear/tension/peace/fluttering
• pain/discomfort/relief, relaxed

EMOTIONAL AWARENESS - General Feelings and sensations:

• up/down
• unsettled/peaceful

• confident/lack of confidence

• connectedness/disconnected
• love/bond/like
• anger/fear/grief/loss
• smallness/bigness
• superiority/inferiority

MENTAL AWARENESS - General intuitive Impressions:

• “I feel like an eagle soaring grand and free.”
• “There is a disconnect in this relationship.”
• “This part of the business feels low in energy, or the people in this part of the business have low energy.”

5. Examples of SPECIFIC intuitive impressions

Examples of typical intuitive impressions through the four levels of awareness from GENERAL to SPECIFIC:

Steve tuned in intuitively to his relationship with Carol, here is his intuitive exploration:

Physical Level:
“As I focus on my relationship I get a closed feeling in my chest, and my hands go cold. I focus on this feeling; especially the chest feeling and I wonder to myself what the feeling means… I let thoughts flow to my mind and I write them down.

Emotional Level:
“I feel sadness, disappointment… if I hold that feeling it occurs to me that I had high expectations for this relationship and I am feeling more than the pain of the argument we had, I feel let down.”

Mental Level:
“I wonder to myself about this feeling of being disappointed. I ask for the truth about this, I pretend that I can feel deeply now and open my mind to some wisdom on the situation. I write down these thoughts… I had unrealistic expectations about what a relationship should be, I thought that because I loved her so much, that this was the “one”, the perfect match, my soul mate, I thought that meant we would never fight.

I feel now that this was an unrealistic expectation. I wanted her to be perfect; I got more angry than needed. I’m trying to close my heart now in preparation to walk away.” The question that pops into my head is, “Do you love her?” My answer is yes – this makes a warm open feeling come back to my chest.

Steve tuned into his issue with high expectations to try and heal it. Here is his intuitive exploration of Carol:

Physical Level: “I focus on my issue with high expectations of my partner. I set my intention to FEEL THE ROOT of the issue; to gain insight into what is driving it and what I need to do to heal it.

I feel like my body is stretching upwards, like trying to be bigger than I am, it’s stressful; I wonder to myself what the feeling means… I let thoughts flow to my mind and I write them down.

Emotional Level:
“I must be bigger, I am bigger, I am superior... I feel some anger and frustration here, stress, tired but must push on” I am surprised at this, I have always thought of myself as a nice guy, this seems a bit arrogant. I ask for more insight about this.

Mental Level: “I want to be bigger because then I can control, then I have power, and then things won’t go wrong.” I feel sadness come up as these thoughts arrive. Where is this from? I ask.

I have a mental flashback of my father and mother arguing, I try to be a better child so that there will be more peace, so that they don’t argue. I try to make my mother feel better. It occurs to me that I am brining some of my past pain with my own parents to my relationship.

I decide to work on this more in the days and weeks to come. For now I settle with imagining Carol in front of me. I feel love flowing to her again. I feel the need to call her to apologize to her and to tell her I love her.

When I am finished my tune-in that’s exactly what I do.

6. Summary

When you do your tuning in, when you allow yourself to start connecting:

i. Start with broad GENERAL feelings - some of which you have already been experimenting with in your focal awareness exercises.

ii. To go to more SPECIFIC information you need to use your FAP... and then when you get a general feeling or impression you can handle it “Proactively” or “Passively” (or use variations of both as you feel is needed)

iii. Proactive - hold it and ask questions in your mind to explore for more; OR

iv. Proactive - ask for deeper truth about what you are picking up on;OR

v. Passive - let it flow to more detail on its own. ALSO remember to start from PHYSICAL, and then EMOTIONAL levels before pushing for words and detailed inner dialogue.

INSIGHT #7: The key to translating effectively is feeling literacy

1. It’s all in the translation
As you advance in your intuitive skill you will realize that the key to deeper intuitive work is learning to translate the subtle feelings and impressions into words.

2. An explanation of feeling literacy
We are all complex and multifaceted...And so, intuitive impressions are like fragrances in the wind... or where we must hold our impressions... and PUSH to describe the subtle impressions... in as many word and descriptions as possible.Feeling literacy is literally developing a full and rich vocabulary to describe the subtle feelings and sensations within your body so that you can more easily and accurately translate.

3. The LAST step is “putting it into words”
Now that you are capable of focusing your awareness...
Now that you have some skills around tuning in on different levels...
Now that you are capable of using the awareness triangle going from general to specific and really starting to pay attention to what is happening beneath your shoulders...
...you will have discovered that the LAST step is putting it into words.

The difference between a good and a great intuitive is simply HOW MANY words you have at your disposal to translate into and HOW willing you are to PUSH yourself to translate into words. The fact is that you are already intuitively connected. And the connecting is 80% of your intuitive work already done.

You are already connecting; information is already flowing through to your body intuitively. Now to go from being a beginner to being advanced is up to you and your willingness to develop your feeling literacy and to practice translating.

With every FAP intuitive connection you just have to push yourself for words. Even if your mind gets stuck, even if you are not feeling confident… you have to leap.

You've got your connections; you've got everything beginning to flow for you. Now it is about going to that innocent place, like a child, where you just open to words, thoughts and ideas.

4. Inner motivational thoughts to help you translate
Once connected, here are inner motivational thoughts to help you to leap to words and translate:

• If I had to guess what would I know right now?
• If this feeling had a voice what would it say?
• If this feeling was a body posture what body posture would it be? (*)
• If this feeling or knowing wanted something what would it want to do?
• If the words were there what would they be?(*)

The body posture idea is a great one to use as a feeling literacy exercise.

6. Flow checks keywords

a. The essence of a flow check is:

• How is it the target topic or sub-topic flowing?
i. Does it feel stuck?
ii. Does it feel open?
iii. Does it feel strong?
iv. Does it feel weak?

• What can be done to get it to flow better?
Typical types of blocks to the flow include:

- Ignorance: simply a lack of knowledge 
- Fear: not being equal-to
- Imbalance: exaggeration of certain things at the expense of other things
- Belief systems: internal statements that the body believes is true, but that limit the true potential of the person or system.

Use this powerful basic sense to diagnose every sub-topic and major topic. Then dig for more insight into the nature of the blocks to the flow and open to ways and solutions to get the blocks to dissolve.
